Pattern Review Butterick 6217

Hullo!

Here is a post about the Patterns by Gertie vintage inspired tie front blouse which I made as my first piece in my Vintage Inspired Four Piece Mini Capsule Wardrobe sewing challenge.

Butterick 6217
One of the things I love about Gertie's patterns is that you see details that you just don't find anywhere else, like the fabulous front tie:

And the tulip sleeve:
I made this from vintage cotton yardage from the 50s.  These large scale roses were very popular and were referred to as "cabbage" roses.  Fabric was printed with blue, pink, red, and orange roses, although yellow roses were particularly popular after Grace Kelly wore the fabulous yellow rose dress designed by Edith Head in Rear Window.

Since I had a scant two yards of this loverly print, I thought Butterick 6217 would be the perfect fit.  I wish I had a tad more, so that I could have pattern matched the front. Sigh.

I added vintage apple juice bakelite buttons to complete the retro look.

Gertie's pattern was clear and fairly quick to sew up.  The only alteration I made was to raise the front neckline up a quarter inch to avoid any decolletage.

When I sew the pattern again, (and I probably will; did you get an eyeball of all those cute versions on the pattern envelope?) I will grade in a size at the top of the center front as this one came out a little loose in the bust.  I will also take out a little width at the top of the center back.  I usually don't have to do this adjustment, so I'm thinking the pattern may be cut wide across the shoulders.  For you curvy girls out there, you are gonna love it!

A second top for the VIFPMCW, or as I have taken to calling it the WTF Challenge, is next in the queue.

(WTF stands for What Terrific Fun, of course.)

Stay tuned for more details about the VIFPMCW
